D9- Strategic KM versus Operational KM

Operational KM is aimed at efficiency, productivity or improvement of performance of employees or work processes. Strategic KM is aimed at greater value creation or revenue growth through innovation of business model, market niche or product.

The above figure is adapted from the Overview Chapter of “Knowledge Management in Asia: Experiences and Lessons” (Tokyo: Asian Productivity Organization, 2008). The e-book is freely downloadable.

The series of blog posts in “KM Framework or F series” provides a more thorough explanation of the figure above, in particular, the blog post on “F5- A proposed KM framework”.
